Still up in the air

stay on Blogger and use their custom domains thing leads over migrate to Wordpress (110 days ago)
fiction leads over non-fiction (2 years ago)
SuperCollider leads over Visual Basic (2 years ago)
Put it in a midi sequencer without being bogged down by notation and instrument choices (like drums and weird midi noises). leads over Put it in a score notation program so you'll have music that you can actually read and make a midi file out of. (2 years ago)
pick one arbitrarily. leads over pick the one that has the one or two extra votes. (3 years ago)
Read from online newspapers - don't need to go out and buy huge stacks of papers, most of which I probably won't read. leads over Buy a paper and read it several times a week - feels more real, more time staring at paper rather than a computer screen (3 years ago)
Make it sassy and sarcastic - easier to program because it's easier to avoid tricky questions without sounding like an idiot. Bickering is fun... leads over Make it nice - people will want to talk to her more, at least until they realize that she's an idiot (unintentionally)... it'll be a better challenge. (3 years ago)
Just read it in English; you'll probably miss a lot of the nuances if you try the Spanish version. and Be hardcore and read it in its original language. But you should probably build up to it by reading easier Spanish books first. are tied (3 years ago)

Set in stone

I picked Speech bubble coming out of a close-up of a pigeon; kind of humorous and cute, I love pigeons. over Stick to a plain design with no pictures. Maybe some geometric design or a small something-or-other in the corner. (2 years ago)
I picked Finish up some incomplete musical compositions over Finish up and launch new website idea (2 years ago)
Two days late, but at least it's finally finished. http://www.queenoflub.com/compeuse/D.mp3
I picked PowerBook G4 running Tiger, which is slower and heats up my leg horribly when I tell it to do something. (It's been reliable; I was planning on changing it this year, but I think it might hold out for another year.) over G3 desktop on Leopard, which is faster but has been mysteriously crashing as of late. (Also I have to pay money and upgrade the Max/MSP, because the version I bought last year isn't compatible with Leopard.) (2 years ago)
Oops yeah. Desktop is a G4, too. But it still sucks more.
I picked Study a little bit daily on weeknights. over Study for longer periods on weekends only. (2 years ago)
ugh, fine. actually, it gives me a good reason to frequent my favorite coffeeshop on my way home from work while waiting for rush hour traffic to settle down.
I picked Stay at home or go someplace else. over Go to Boston to see the infamous fireworks show for the first time. (2 years ago)
Oops, I waited too long to get tickets and now they're ridiculously expensive. Oh well, there's always next year..
I picked No. over Yes, just in case you need a document or something. (2 years ago)
One of my best weekends. I also felt superior to everybody else who had brought their laptops. Hah!
I decided to do Something else rather than Wrangle up some friends to go to a documentary about reality tv, which sounds kind of cool, come home and go to bed immediately. or Go home, relax, write music because I've been feeling crappy about being too lazy to do so. (2 years ago)
I got out of work 3 hours later than I had planned. Ended up missing the movie. Only had enough energy to eat dinner, check e-mail, and go to bed.
I decided to do Something else rather than Make the desktop your primary computer, have empty desk space you can draw/write on, etc. or Keep laptop on desk, and continue writing/drawing on bed, couch, floor, etc. (2 years ago)
I now keep the laptop in the living room (my parents are happy because I get to "sit with them" and they get to distract me while I'm tring to read e-mail), and use the desktop whenever I'm in my room. However, I don't like moving my laptop around too much because I keep having to plug/unplug a dozen (not really, just three or so) peripherals each time I change a location. I don't want to throw my desktop away because I'm sentimental like that, and it still works.
I picked Post often, so people will feel compelled to come more often. over Post less frequently, so the latest post gets more exposure. (2 years ago)
good points, everyone. of course, not lowering the quality goes without saying.
I picked Focus on only one or two things over Dabble in many areas of interest (2 years ago)
whoa. work takes up more time than I had thought.
I decided to do Something else rather than http://www.queenoflub.com/etc/lj/lasermagic.jpg or http://www.queenoflub.com/etc/lj/mitalumni.jpg (2 years ago)
rephrased the question.
I picked side - easier to read menu items vertically, don't have to scroll down the page as much for content. over top - if I can manage to find a nice way to organize the navigation. (3 years ago)
Aaahhhhh.... I suddenly have all this space opened up! new layout is up.
I picked MIT alumni/networking event in LA ("toast to IAP") over best friend's housewarming party in SF (3 years ago)
Ugh, I just remembered that I have to be at a recital that afternoon, too... so I guess that's a bad weekend to be traveling.
I picked Firefox add-ons over separate applications (2 years ago)
I picked keep it all in the browser(s). after all, the beauty of gmail is in the interface. over use Apple Mail for one of the accounts (3 years ago)
I was considering Mail since Gmail supports IMAP now. Anyway, I figured out how to have two browser profiles open, and I also found this add-on: http://www.longfocus.com/firefox/gmanager/
I picked reattempt over abort (3 years ago)
I had made two such resolutions in the year 2007. I kept one, and failed at the other. I decided to reattempt the failed one with a more lax set of rules. If that also fails, I won't continue next year.
I picked draw blood and gore, and put it on the internet over draw blood and gore, but don't put it on the internet / don't draw blood and gore at all (2 years ago)
blood and gore in moderation! (nothing I draw is too extreme, anyway.)
I picked sans-serif over serif (3 years ago)
I went through some fonts I liked, and my favorite one happened to be sans.
I picked Make a separate, professional website, and have a link to my personal website somewhere for people who care enough to explore. over Not bother with another website, and just give out my personal website URL to friends and acquaintances. (3 years ago)
I picked myself. over someone else. (3 years ago)
I picked Ms. over Mrs. (3 years ago)
I decided to do Something else rather than thoughts. or actions. (3 years ago)
a combination of everything, but mostly stuff about my surroundings. http://www.twitter.com/melike
I picked newer -> older (better -> crap) over older -> newer (crap -> better) (3 years ago)
Good! Status quo it is, then. :)
I picked Yes. You need to get them out of your system and remember them in the future! Some noteworthy memories are so fleeting... over No. Someday, somebody will open it and read it. What would your grandchildren think?? (I guess I could request in my will that the notebook be buried with me in my grave and trust that people will respect that.) What if archeologists find it 1000 years later? Aaahhh! (3 years ago)
I just read my older diary entries and I really appreciate myself for writing down things that I knew I might forget.
I picked Try to find a friend whose family I could be a part of just for one day, and do the whole turkey-eating thing. over Sit at home with my parents. I wouldn't want to impose on anyone. (3 years ago)
I picked Apply anyway (shamelessly), and ask in the cover letter if there are entry-level positions available. or something. over Don't waste recruiters' time - apply only for jobs that clearly state entry-level. (3 years ago)
Yay, I've got nothing to lose.
I picked No, it makes you seem less flexible. over Yes, it makes you sound like you know what you want. (3 years ago)
I figure the cover letter will be enough to explain what kind of a job I'm thinking of doing. I'll include objectives only if I'm not applying to any specific position. I guess I don't see the point of writing an objective that's just a paraphrase of the job description.
I decided to do Something else rather than Yeah, it might look cool. or No, it will look horrible. (3 years ago)
Compromise: dark burgundy. It looked weird at first, but then I liked it. Not sure if I'm ready for black yet. (Also, for people who suggested nailpolish remover: I guess my question implied "should I wear black nailpolish and go out into public with it?") Also, I was too lazy to go out and buy it, hah.
I picked Blog about them while you're working on them, with the risk of feeling like a lazyass if you never get to finish them (which is often the case). over Blog about them only when you're finished, so that you're not disclosing any secrets. Besides, you'd sound 100% accomplished/victorious. (3 years ago)
I started off with a big post about all my works-in-progress. I'm a bit iffy about sharing "confidential information," but I'll get over it.. or only refer to it in a very roundabout way and piss everybody off.
I picked No, what you have is fine. Nobody cares. over Yes, so that your first name and last name are stated clearly and don't blend together. (3 years ago)
Whoa, you guys are right! Mail sent to [firstname].[lastname] automatically redirects to my current e-mail! Yes!!!
I picked Color on the computer - safer if you mess up, can experiment more. over Color with markers - it's nice to have a 'real' tangible product, and you ought to work with more traditional media. (3 years ago)
I began coloring it on the computer. I can put so much more detail into it and it's turning out great. I'll practice other stuff on traditional media later.
I picked Express my concern to my parents right away. over Wait until the bill comes and brace myself. (3 years ago)
I freaked out and told my mom. Turns out I've gone over the limit, but it's not a huuuge difference. Phew. Now I know the password with which I can check my usage status, which I was too afraid to ask about until tonight.
I picked Let brain loose and think whatever it wants to think. over Force brain into more productive exertion. (3 years ago)
I tend to think very intensely about one thing for a week or two, but then my brain switches over to something else (that's equally useless). So, at least there's a nice variety of obsession. It's all in good fun.
I picked use online tutorials and references only over buy a book (suggestions would be great) (3 years ago)
I just look up the stuff I need online for now. Although, I should go through a proper tutorial one of these days.
I picked meh. keep thinking. over bingo! (3 years ago)
I bought the name and slept on it for a month. Not enough consensus.
I picked coffeeshop over library (3 years ago)
Yes, kyrandil, it was a "real" coffeeshop. :)
I picked trash the middle part over make the middle part better (3 years ago)
I completely deleted the middle section and started over. I already have great ideas! So liberating! I might integrate elements from the parts I deleted...
I picked aural over visual (3 years ago)
Ugh, you guys always choose the more difficult option. I started reworking an old composition, but it still needs a lot more work. There's no way I can finish it tonight, but I'll work on it later.... maybe.
I picked Get one - it'd be nice to get little surprises from my friends. over Don't get it - some of your friends will probably draw annoying obscenities. Besides, the Doxory app already takes up so much space on my profile page; it'd be too cluttered. (3 years ago)
Actually, I removed the Doxory app off my profile and put my Graffiti wall in its place. I like using Doxory through Facebook better, but my multitude of unresolved dilemmas was flooding my profile.
I picked remove them over keep them (how?) (3 years ago)
I replaced it with a generic Interests section. I hadn't spread myself out too thin anyway.
I picked Think of something else. People who don't know you will think you're a pretentious bitch for calling yourself a queen. You'd always have to explain yourself on a prominent section of your website. over Do queenmelike; you can't find anything better. (3 years ago)
I picked Japanese - more thoughtful/shows that I put more effort into it? (also shows that I've since quit Japanese). over English - they understand it, and I wouldn't have to worry about messing up formalities. (3 years ago)
I'm sending nice new year cards... using some common new year phrases I found in Google. I figure a sentence or two is more than enough. Yay!
I picked Keep working on it and see what happens. It'll be good practice, and it if turns out to be crap, so what. over Give up on it and work on more original compositions. (3 years ago)
Meh. I spent countless hours on this and finally decided to give up. It sounds like crap, so I'm ditching it. Shouldn't have tried it!!! I could have been doing something else this whole time.. boohoo.. whatever......
I picked A dark color like black or brown - sleek and sexy. over Off-white - more neutral, goes with any color scheme. (And, some, but not most, of the ads have white borders around them..I think.) (3 years ago)
It looks great!! See for yourself: http://www.queenoflub.com/smile/2007/07/project-of-week.shtml Thanks, Doxory! :)
I picked Get one with my name (Melike) in it somewhere. over Think of a title for my website that doesn't necessarily have my name in it. (3 years ago)
I want something permanent. My interests come and go over the years, but my name will always stay the same.
I picked Not be so anal. over Play the songs on iTunes with the volume down simultaneously so that they'll get scrobbled. (3 years ago)
Yeah, whatever.
I picked Take a statistics class at UCLA this summer. Maybe it'll help structure my life. Besides, it'd be crappy to take a math classes after I start work (whenever that would be). over Relax, weirdo (me)! I just graduated. When will be the next time I'll have no obligations whatsoever? (3 years ago)
Sorry, but I get unhappy when I don't have a million things to do. I already have two or three personal projects in mind as well, but I'd die if I sat at home all day. I need something to break up my schedule.
I decided to do Something else rather than Put the blog on the main page. That way, both the blog and the other areas of the site get more visibility. Also, I might feel motivated to write more often? (Currently the main page has 10-word summaries for the latest three blog entries.) or Put the blog in a separate part of the site, because 1. Some people once thought my website was simply a blog, and it's much more than that, and 2. a blog clutters up the main page of the site. (3 years ago)
The main page has a small snippet of the latest blog entry. You can go to the blog to read the rest. Now the main page looks clean enough. (www.queenoflub.com if you want to see.)
I picked Get a .com name, because everybody knows what .com is. And I wouldn't have to get the island of Niue involved. over Get a .nu name, because then melike.nu would be available, and it'd be cool. There are a lot of personal websites like that (ashley.nu, rion.nu, etc.). (3 years ago)
I picked Try to think of another one that still has my first name in it, which is very difficult because my first name is already taken. (I'm thinking queenmelike.com, but I'm iffy, so please submit suggestions if you have any. Hah.) over Have it be my full name dot com, even though I hate my last name and can't wait to get it changed when I get married. (3 years ago)
I picked Start over with the new account, try to listen to tons of music to catch up with the old account, ugh. (Username is queenmelike, which is what I use for everything nowadays.) over Keep the old account. (The username is sexymelike, so I'm kind of meh. I'm sure I thought it was hilarious at the time.) (3 years ago)
For some reason, I felt uncomfortable using sexymelike (even though I'm still kinda sexy, I guess). The FAQ says that it's not possible to rename accounts or transfer statistics. I figured that I'd always be listening to music, and so I'd reach 2000 tracks again eventually. No big loss. My old account reminds me of what a bad year 2005 was. heh. Besides, it might be interesting to see how my musical tastes have changed since then.
I picked Do something about them later (sell some of them next week, etc.). over Go through my stuff today and put out the things that I'm not taking home with me so that others can take them. (3 years ago)
Laziness! Procrastination!
I decided to do Something else rather than Check out New York and other nearby places. or Stay home, explore Boston further, actually have time to practice piano for my last lessons, work on personal projects I've been wanting to do. (3 years ago)
I'm going to the Berkshires with a group of friends this weekend. I get back on Monday, and after that I'll stick around here and tie up loose ends. The reason I'd wanted to visit New York was that I live in California, so I don't know when would be the next time I'd be in the East Coast, but oh well. I'll definitely see New York some other time. (Sorry Asli!)
I picked Order it, man. over Wait until after finals to go to a real restaurant. Eat leftover stuffed grape leaves instead. Besides, you've dined out every meal this weekend (only 'cause they were all free). (3 years ago)
I decided to do Something else rather than Stick with my decision and go to the freshman's barbecue? or Tell her that something else came up and go to the boyfriend's party instead? (3 years ago)
Actually, I was able to do both. I let her know that I'd be back a little bit later, and went to the island party with the boyfriend. The frosh had fallen asleep, so she had moved the dinner two hours back. I was just in time to contribute something of my own to the dinner and hang out for over two hours. Both events were great.
I decided to do Something else rather than Stick with my decision and go to the freshman's barbecue? (She had 16 steaks mailed to her from Nebraska.) or Tell her that something else came up and go to the boyfriend's party instead? (3 years ago)
see previous decision
I picked find the proof of purchase and buy a replacement for $100 (cheaper than the original price) over keep looking and not telling my parents (3 years ago)
I have been looking for this ring for a long time, and it wasn't probable that I was going to find it before I left here. So... meh. But on the bright side, yay I can wear a Brass Rat again. It's been horrible not wearing one. truly. AND I didn't need to find the proof of purchase; they found my original order for me. I haven't told my mom yet; my dad knows, but my mom will be pretty disappointed in my irresponsibility. oh well...

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
