[temporary profile to answer a question in comments on my question: a 2007 brass rat is ~$300, but since the rings automatically come with insurance, replacing my 2006 brass rat is ~$100. if i'm spending more than $100, i'd get the 2006 replacement brass rat and the 2007 steel rat since that's only ~$200 total.]

get the 2007 steel rat; i don't identify that strongly with my class year and not having to explain why i have a 2006 rat but graduated in 2007 all the time might be nice. also, it has the wright flyer hack which i really wanted to be on my 2006 rat but they didn't have time to include it in the design. leads over
get the 2006 brass rat; having a gold ring is nice for formal occasions and most people identify with their entering class year. also you can see the detail better in the gold. (3 years ago)

don't go -- i'm not sure if it's my style of humor, i'll have to wait 4hrs before it starts, i don't know if i know anyone who's going to it

go -- i've never been before, i'm already on campus, i know one or two people performing (3 years ago)
nobody had anything to say in favor of it

it doesn't smell, but it does taste vaguely weird, though i'm used to 1% so i'm not sure how much of that is just the fact that it's whole. but i'm not going to drink it, though i might use it for baking if i'm inspired/have time in the next couple days. thanks all.
I decided to do
Something else rather than
aikido: i've taken this class before, and while it was interesting, the teaching style was not a good fit for me. on the other hand, maybe i'll know more of what i'm doing now and it's only 1.5hrs per class. or
body smarts: "Mission Possible: Turning Geeks into Athletes in Three Short Weeks" sounds a little scary and i haven't found anyone else who's taken it to indicate otherwise. on the other hand, kinesthetic awareness, increased strength and flexibility are all good things to try to achieve. but this is 2hrs per class, is supposed to be intensive and i do very little exercise so this will definitely be difficult.

i managed to get into a yoga class instead, which i much prefer to either of the above options. i'm surprised at how many people were into the body smarts class given how no one really knows much about it. i probably would have gone with the aikido class if i hadn't gotten into the yoga class the night before, because i'm more comfortable going to something where i feel like i know what to expect, so that's why i chose that before there was the option to say i did something else.

don't do it: it meets 4 days a week, it's likely to be boring since i took advanced beginner swimming at mit day camp when i was 9, it's not even in the real lane pool, and dealing with bathing suit stuff is annoying and there are other classes that only meet twice a week that i could do instead. also, i may still be feeling crappy from wisdom teeth tomorrow and i need to show up then if i want a spot. and the swim test isn't too hard to just take on its own.

do it: there are 9 open slots so i'm guaranteed a spot, and it's at 2pm so it's not early for waking or late for affecting evening plans. also it would mean not having to do the swim test separately, and i haven't been swimming in ~5yrs so practice before the test could be good. (3 years ago)
I picked
take it 4x a day, like i'm supposed to, regardless of whether or not my stomach is empty
over
only take it on an empty stomach, like i'm supposed to, and not end up taking it frequently enough due to the fact that i'm a grazer so my stomach is rarely as empty as it should be. (3 years ago)

people there who are also ostensibly working and may poke me to stay on track

any sort of social interaction is generally distracting to me and i tend to do most of my writing when i'm alone (3 years ago)
