Mapserver in and of itself isn't 100% of what I need, but the stuff it's built on top of looks like it can replace a lot of the home-grown infrastructure I have, with advantages that it understands things besides TIGER and someone else is maintaining it.
Why yes, I am a Linux ninja, and this is my home laptop and not my work machine...but on further contemplation the extra shiny just isn't shiny enough to be worth the ongoing effort. EDIT: ...except I hoped the newer fglrx driver would make Google Earth work. And if I'm getting that, I should get the newer X.org server and the corresponding kernel. And once I'm doing that...
