Getting a Civic. Non-hybrid. The Prius' blind spot was literally big enough to drive a truck in..for about half a mile. And that's just not ok.

The rear window isn't nearly as bad as it looks like it would be, once you are sitting in the driver's seat.
My brief exposure to prius rear-windows from the driver's seat says that they look much worse from the outside... but you've probably test-driven already, so who knows. Priuses come with all of Hobbit's extensive prius hacking notes available. :)
the new model prii are a pleasure to drive
Less likely it's "accidentally" taken to Waltham one day, right? ;)
I said the Prius because it is far more efficient than the Civic (which is actually only a hybrid-assist, it's using the ICE most of the time; plus, the Prius uses the Atkinson cycle and that's nifty). How much rear vis do you really need driving in Boston anyway? Probably the less you can see, the better it'll be for your heart!
The Prius is cute, and the electronics are sexy. Plus the gas mileage!
I like my Prius. The rear window really doesn't bother me anymore, and the backup camera is nice for backing up. I loved my old Civic, OTOH.
You get used to the Prius rear window so quickly you won't even realize it's small (it's not).
But just how horrible is the rear window? Do you feel it would really be dangerous? If so, definitely go for the Civic.
We love our Prius. The rear window is really not that bad (in my experience - if you've test driven it and still think the rear window is horrible, then it is to you), and we manage to back up to park our Prius in our *special*-shaped driveway just fine. The rear camera that displays on the dashboard when you back up is pretty useless though because the perspective is really weird.

Don't get a car you don't like, but hybrid is good
As long as "not great" is better than 25 MPG...
dont but a civic unless you do the hybrid thing. a bad rear window can be a really bad thing.
I like my non-hybrid civic ex
had a civic, love 'em. love the tech. love everything about 'em.
The accord hybrid is even cooler.

I suspect my car criteria are very different from yours.
How much do you actually drive at home? The impact of the batteries and materials for a hybrid is significant, and (at least in my case) if you don't drive much, a high-effeciency lightweight pure gas car is both economically more affordable, and potentially better in the long term.
The current-gen Civics are so weird outside and have the least ergonomic dash ever. What about a Rabbit/GTI (maybe TDI), Mazda 3 or Yaris?
Do you drive enough to make the payback on the hybrid realistic? Considered a diesel?
You need a hot convertible sports car.

The prius is neat tech. I'm not totally convinced it's the one true way, but it's neat. Also, I hear the side view mirrors are good.
The latest Civic Hybrid doesn't get "great gas mileage for a hybrid", but it does get "good gas mileage for a hybrid" and "great gas mileage". At least on the highway. In the city, the Civic is going to take a bigger hit on it's gas mileage than the Prius will. The Prius will get better gas mileage in any scenario. So, if you're going to be doing a lot of highway driving, a Civic Hybrid will get good gas mileage and might even be more comfortable. On the other hand, if you're mostly going to be driving in little 5-miles-or-less bursts in the city, the Prius will get much better mileage.
Dude, you live in a state that has cold weather. Electric hybrids will, over the year, get WORSE mileage than the Golf TDi.
