Great suggestions. I ended up not taking either this semester, but we'll see what happens in the future.

If you live in the Western Hemisphere south of Canada, Spanish is a first or second language almost everywhere If you're muslim or got some other cultural or geographical connection, go w/ Arabic Hell, whats wrong with both? (I'm chicagoan, so going w/ spanish on this one)
unless you're going to travel to the middle east, spanish will be more useful living in the US
Learning Spanish would help you more in America (social justice work, community organizing, just talking to people). Arabic would help you more with globalization (traveling, studying in the Arab world, becoming an oil tycoon). I'm going to suggest Spanish.

You should do something special, Arabic is harder. Hust do it.
Depends what you're planning to do with it and how much of a masochist you are... Spanish takes considerably less effort to pick up, so if you have no particular need to take one or the other, start with Arabic.
depends on why you want to learn a language; spanish may be more applicable to daily life/future jobs and easier to pick up, arabic may be more interesting though more difficult to learn. also depends on your situation; if you have more time to put into learning a language now, go with arabic since you can probably pick up spanish more easily in less time later.
If you have ~5 years, Arabic is a beautiful language. More people should definitely try it. However, If you want mastery within the short-term, take Spanish: more familiar structure & vocabulary, not to mention alphabet.
new alphabets are always fun
