Eh, I'd wait a little longer before upgrading. You'll be able to get a better deal if you wait until you *have* to upgrade.
The iBook should be fine; it seems silly to upgrade it just so you can have 12 things open at once when you won't even be using it for work.
Is your work going to give you a laptop?
Unless Apple is going to release newer MacBooks soon, I'd hold on to your old one and make sure it's backed up et al.
Hey, I only had *my* laptop for a summer and it was plenty.
compromise and stuff more memory in the iBook?
