Croatia was the destination, for the record. Genocide against Serbs & others during WWII and, of less magnitude, during the early 1990s. Still going -- it seems like a pretty cool country.

What country has never been party to genocide? This is a trick question.
Which country? I was in Rwanda last summer, and would definitely recommend others visit (they're made *huge* steps forward since their genocide), so it's definitely possible for things to change.
Countries don't commit genocide, people do.
...not that capitalism seems to be currently stopping the nasty stuff /our/ country is doing, but...
have the people changed? I expect germany has. Probably turkey as well. Have these?
or...you shouldn't hold the fucked up former government against the everyday people there now trying to make a living.
But if genocide hasn't been publicly acknowledged, shun them
How far back in history do you want to care? Just about every nation has committed _some_ genocide.

i'd be uncomfortable with it, but not outright against it. only your second reason really makes sense as a reason to be ok with going. i think i agree with ian; if it's been publicly acknowledged and the country has worked to change things to prevent it from happening in future and has made what reparations it can, then i'd probably go. if they just had new officials move in who said "yeah, it's over, let's forget about it", then i wouldn't go.
