It's not too dark.
Former's too washed out, latter is more what I'd expect from a subway station in terms of lighting.
once again, i wouldn't take pictures of underground entryways. But this one has a dynamic contrast to it.
Photoshop will make it lighter, and it has better detail.
595 is a better picture of the inside, except that the washout is unrecoverable; 599 on the other hand shows (by the sunlight on the gate on the right) much more that this is an outside entrance, even though the image is a little tilted. So it depends on what you want to do with the picture, but I'd probably go with 599 and a little light-rebalancing (my Optio S4 has a "d-light" feature which just brings up the darker parts a bit, I assume there are corresponding gimp/photoshop washes for that)
