the confidence is the relevant part.
...if you have the time.
It's what got me in to MIT.
As long as it doesn't interfere with your academics!

finish school.
I say freeload for now until your GCSEs are over, and then do freelance work in your spare time during your A-levels. GCSEs are time-consuming; A-levels are a piece of piss.
It's tough going it alone as a web designer... continue living on the cheap and stay with your folks, but continue to study code and web design.
You really only get one shot at your A- and O-levels in any country of the commonwealth, and in most cases you'd be stuck doing entry-level work without more skills.
They'll handle it! :P

OK, I was here about a decade ago. Let me give you some very serious and important advice: put down the books and the keyboard and go chase girls. There's plenty of time in life to work, and from your other posts I think you're probably plenty smart as it is. For people like you, the most important thing to focus on in your teenage years is having fun with your peers, if you can find any, because it will build your social skills and self-confidence, which are far more important than any particular academic subject or resume padder that you might obtain instead. (But do what you need to do to get into a good college, even if it means sacrifices in your social life -- that's really, really important, as much for the people you'll meet as anything.)
