Doxory?

izzycat has decided I'm a PhD student. I don't have a job for the summer (the teaching gig I was hoping for fell through). I should start working on my research but the prospect of doing that full-time scares me. I have savings, so I don't need the money.

I'm doing my research, but I'm kind of scared about it. I'm still kind of hoping that a teaching gig comes through, but I'm not holding my breath.

find a (part-time, maybe?) job for the summer

Kake
Work part-time, research part-time, to get yourself eased into it gently and make it seem less scary.

trs, seph, nelhage, kettlefish, quince, peggusus, aletta, Richie, kzinti

My choice: spend the whole time working on my research

Doesn't your advisor pay you during the summer?

Find a part-time non-thesis project, too.

Volunteer work, picking up a new hobby/skill, meeting new people?

You've got to get started sometime - better now when the weather is nice and you can take refreshing weekend breaks than in the winter when things are cold and ucky.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
