photon has decided I'm still waiting to hear from $GRADUATE_SCHOOL in California. I'll be in their vicinity in a few weeks.

Called them yesterday--they called me back today and told me no. One less school to worry about.

Email them and let them know I'll be in the area during $INTERVAL, that I'd really like to hear back from them, and that I'm still very enthusiastic about attending?

Emailing them sounds a little weird; is there a way you can drop by, visit, maybe have an informal trip - know any grad students there? Or maybe you can drop by grad admissions and just find a tour or something...

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
