laurel: i entered MIT as class of 2006, took a year off between junior and senior year and am now deciding what brass rat i want; i got brass (white gold) and steel (siladium) rats for 2006, but i lost my gold one. getting a replacement 2006 brass rat and getting a 2007 steel rat costs about the same amount.

get the 2006 brass rat; having a gold ring is nice for formal occasions and most people identify with their entering class year. also you can see the detail better in the gold.

I don't think most people will ask about the disparity between the 06/07 rat/diploma; those that can tell the difference will understand. It makes more sense for the rats to match, alas for the Flyer.

I never got my ring, so I do not feel strongly about it, since it seems less important what year you have when you do not graduate with your class, but if you want one, I would go for the nicer one.

get the 2007 steel rat; i don't identify that strongly with my class year and not having to explain why i have a 2006 rat but graduated in 2007 all the time might be nice. also, it has the wright flyer hack which i really wanted to be on my 2006 rat but they didn't have time to include it in the design.

I wanted to have a gold rat, but if you don't care that much about getting gold and you like the 2007 steel rat better, I'd just go with it. (I'm not sure how many people will really notice the year on your rat, but the Wright Flyer hack is nice. :)

you still have your steel 06 rat. go with 07 for the gold. unless you're feeling poor, in which case you should just get the replacement 06 rat.

which class do you identify with? but i'd get an '07 if I were in your shoes, just because I wouldn't want φ θ on my ring.

why bother getting either? nobody's going to notice the year on your rat once you graduate anyway.
