Doxory?

susannah has decided My laptop (Powerbook G4) has been falling asleep when it's not supposed to. When I wake it, it has erratic behavior. After it's fallen asleep a couple of times, it falls asleep and not only can't be woken up, but holding down the power button doesn't shut it down. I have to take out the battery and wait for a few minutes before I'm able to start it again.

It's become really clear that it's a hardware problem. And yes, I will be backing it uo before sending it off to the tender mercies of AppleCare.

My choice: Send it to Apple Care (yes, I have an AppleCare plan).

it sounds like a hardware problem (just from the 2s., remote diagnostic)
uberjay
Bring it to an Apple store and see what they say.

backup the hard disk contents first!

Inconvenient, but a better use of your time. The turnaround is surprisingly fast IME.

Wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install of OS X on a brand new filesystem.

isn't this really "do X then Y" ?

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
