Buy tickets on American (~$400) as soon as I know my teaching schedule and get some more miles.

I have a personal dislike of United, which is probably informing my decision, but in general you should save your miles for times when they'll be really valuable...

AFAICT, approximately no one goes to their HS 5th reunion, because you all just graduated from college.
