lakmiseiru has decided For internets at the new house in Seattle

We're with Clearwire for now - the speed is kind of shitty, but it beats having yet another service provider I have to call repeatedly for outages due to lightning storms (rare in Seattle, at least) and the like. Laziness FTW!

My choice: Clearwire (housemate already has a station and contract)

kyrandil, Ian, photon, jesse, cshiley, jgadgil, MeredithMP, rnayir1, pburkholder, gugod

Something with an actual physical cable running to the house

I don't know anything about Clearwire, but IME physical cables are less likely to get fucked up than something wireless.

At least for the medium term, I suspect that your average cable modem provider is likelier to be more reliable/stable than a wireless ISP, though I'm not that familiar with Clearwire.

we have wireless (in SF). it's fast but overall QOS kind of sucks.

Can't beat a wire.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
