My choice: Portal pre-order or Orange Box or something else

Any brilliant advice would certainly be appreciated. Shameless advocacy is often good, too.

portal _is_ pretty awesome...

The Orange Box sounds like a good deal, especially if he likes this type of game.... otherwise it might be kind of silly. If he likes a specific TV series, you might also consider getting a season or two of DVDs...

I try to get people things that are meaningful/memorable -- whether that's a care package for the starving student/grad, a business card case, a whacky piece of memorabilia I know they'll love, or the perfect words for that time.

If you want computer games, you can't really go wrong with any of the Myst series (for puzzlers), the Civilization series (strategy games), currently on iteration IV, or the half-life series (first person shooters).

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
