Doxory?

lakmiseiru has decided MSR makes two backpacking stoves, both variants on the same model, the WhisperLite. Version 1 is a $69 stove that burns white gas only. Version 2 is exactly the same, but costs $79 and burns kerosene, jet fuel, auto gas, and white gas. I intend to mostly backpack and camp in the States, for reference.

Despite Version 1 being on sale for $15 less, I still find the flexibility (and the stove's added ruggedness as a result) too tempting. But with a 20% off coupon it was only $63!

Any brilliant advice would certainly be appreciated. Shameless advocacy is often good, too.

My choice: Version 2 ($79, multi-fuel)

flexibility good. I don't know if there's another stove type that makes any sense though

Unless version 2 is significantly heavier.

I am not a camper, but $10 for flexibility seems like it's worth it.

versatility in tools is good, especially potentially-survival-oriented ones

though I haven't used either stove personally

TEN BUCKS? Is there an $89 version that burns wood and biodiesel? Different petroleum products cost different amounts at different times. You will save your $10.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
