Doxory?

kevinr has decided I'll be moving out of the dorm to an apartment in a few months. (Option Z, "build a new loft," will be considered only if you tell me in what free time I'll accomplish this.)

Turns out it won't really fit in any of the rooms in the apartment. Oops. Also, I think I'd like a bigger bed /anyway/.

Keep the loft and buy a new Twin XL mattress for it (since I don't get to keep the dorm one). Yay extra floor and storage space.

You can just liberate the existing mattress. Yes, you shouldn't, but I'm pretty certain they spend less per mattress than any other furniture.

Moving a loft can be a bit of a pain, but as long as it's not as heavy as mine it's okay to move it. And having the extra space you get from a twin-size loft (as opposed to a queen or full) is nice. You don't necessarily need an extra-long twin unless you want one, either; a short twin is just fine for that. And new beds are spensive, particularly when you want to get boxspring and frame and such.

My choice: Give/sell the loft to someone in the dorm and build/buy another form of bed and mattress. (double bed? futon? ...?)

moving lofts generally sucks. Though I don't know yours specifically.

If you've already found an apartment and know the loft will fit (both in the room and through and stairways/hallways), then bring it with you. Otherwise I'd sell it and go for a double bed. You can get risers for extra storage space.

Get a real person bed, maybe a nice queen-sized futon?

You will probably not be wanting a loft anymore. You'll also want a queen bed (and if you have a real job, go with a real mattress over a futon - it make a big difference.) Bequeath your dorm furniture to the rising generation.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
