Doxory?

lakmiseiru has decided Hiking boots. I've had this pair for 1 year (and I wear them every day) - they're super comfy, waterproof, etc. Going on a one-month backpacking trip in 6 months.

Got some heavy-duty backpacking boots at REI. I've done some hiking with my super-comfy old ones and the uppers aren't as supportive as they used to be, not really a solvable problem. I'm going to start breaking these in now and see how they work out.

My choice: Buy new hiking boots and break them in starting March-ish, or buy new ones now and wear them and use my current ones for the trip only (comment for which)

not sure which, but the other seems less clever.

Buy a second pair and wear them on alternate days. Also, make sure the soles on both are good before you leave -- the heels (which always wear out for me) are easily replaced. "It's easier to replace your shoes than to replace your feet."

Use current ones for the trip.

use the current ones for the trip. that way you'll know you have a newer pair at home and your old ones will already be comfy and you won't worry about harming them on the trip

Marchish - your fallback then is the other option

Keep with the ones I currently have and use them for the next 6 months including the trip

Unless you expect them to fall apart. And if they seem like they will but are repairable, get them repaired. Breaking in new boots is a pain.

Unless they're showing signs of reaching the end of their lif real soon now.

waterproof them again before you go, and maybe call the manufacturer about new insoles, too.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
