My choice: Just hang curtains and don't worry about it - winterizing + light control is a pain

Close the storms, block up any chinks. Hang curtains that are heavy but can be drawn during the day - that way you save at night but can still enjoy the sun during the daytime.

I did not find shrink wrapping to help my heat retention much. So I don't bother. But it depends on your windows and walls.

If your window frames are drafty (like the ones at my old apartment) then even with storm windows heat will leak through, so winterizing is better. If they're actually decent though I'm not sure whether or not it's worth it.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
