Doxory?

photon has decided First-year graduate student in planetary sciences. Haven't had chemistry since high school (loved it then), but I've had a pile of thermo and quantum in my physics classes. I really should take chemistry sooner rather than later.

I settled on auditing 5.111, for better or for worse.

My choice: 5.111 - harder, arguably more useful down the road

3.091 - easier, has a cult following, and I'd have a study buddy

Hated 5.111. Whatever you do, do NOT take it with Janet Schrenk in the spring; taking it with her is what got me consistent Cs in 5.111, 5.12, and 7.05. 3.091 seems generally beneficial, and the only real stuff we got in 5.111 that we probably wouldn't have in 3.091 was solutions chemistry (acids, bases, etc), which we didn't really get anyways. Plus crystal structure, etc. from 3.091 is more applicable to planetary sciences, no?

crystallography is neat

Might as well go all-out and take 5.112.

I agree with madcaptenor.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
