Doxory?

trs has decided I have a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 "plastic fantastic." I really like the 50mm look. For my next lens purchase:

The glass is decent in the 50mm I have, but the construction and focus sucks ass. I think when I get a new lens, it'll be the better 50mm.

My choice: Upgrade to the better 50mm f/1.4 USM.

Extend my range with the 85mm f/1.8 USM since I already have a decent 50mm (and buy the better 50mm later).

I assume you're using this on a 35mm, so the ratio of focal length to objective size is 3:2. IIRC, 3:2 is the sweet spot of "as zoomed out as possible without noticable fisheye distortion"; I'd personally rather have the versatility of a other zoom value.

Go for the flexibility if you're happy with your current.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
