Doxory?

jtf has decided I've been playing this really engaging mmo far too much in the past few weeks, but I've just recently found this really awesome guild in-game over the past few weeks.

Moot point; family's over, so both options have been swept off the table.

I picked something else

Go cold turkey, boot linux for a few days, try to find something to do with the (very few) people around, but risk losing contact and being kicked out of the guild.

"Friends" who want all of your time are no friends at all.

There will always be more guilds online, but all around you, the real world is slipping away..

Boredom and lack of social contact drove me to gaming anyway. I shouldn't feel bad about trying to amuse myself with an mmo as opposed to constantly walking around trying to find someone to talk to.

If you can spend less time playing the guild game than you spent playing the mmo, it's probably okay to continue. Just keep an eye on your playing habits and try to spend less time doing that than socializing in RL.

Well, you can still do stuff with other people. It's actually good that they're few in number; that means you'll also have more time for gaming and everyone will be happy. (Besides, gaming is also a form of socialization.)

give the guild a week, then go find live-action people

It doesn't sound like you want to quit.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
