I'm gonna go with the retriever. I have a huge yard and I like bigger dogs. Now to start checking the shelters (you didn't really think I'd go to a breeder did you?!).

retrievers when they get big can be so enthusiastic they knock small people over
golden retrievers chew up everything, and are really difficult to potty train.

Or visit a local shelter and adopt something that's less likely to have expensive hereditary problems eight years down the line.
where do you live? golden retrievers need a lot of space

What kind of living space do you have? If you have a yard, you could swing the retiever, they do need room to run around and stay healthy. If you're in a small space, possibly better go with the smaller dog.
No! Do not get a dog because you want a puppy. If you want a DOG, then get a dog, but the puppy stage is short-lived and you need to make sure you'll be happy beyond that stage. You're going to be the one taking care of it, not Kailyn.
cats are superior
pomeranian. cute and fuzzy and small, but loud and energetic.
