Schuyler has decided Two friends are getting married in Spain the same weekend that an important professional event is happening in California.

actually, I've been invited to Foo repeatedly, but never actually get the chance to go -- wrong continent, can't afford it, have a spouse that would be ticked off if I went without her, that sort of thing. this year I have none of those limitations, but as it happens, I'm going to go with Jesse on this one. Foos come and go but this wedding happens once.

My choice: Attend the wedding. It will be unforgettable and you want to be there to share the moment with your friends.

Work vs. friends - a hard one. I would actually ask your friends for advice - knowing them, one of them understands the work vs friends problem, and can probably give you advice. Also evaluate how close to them you are vs. how much your career matters to you. Personally, though, if you're happy with your job, I'd choose the wedding.

C'mon. You've been to Foo before. You've never been to my wedding.

Attend the professional event. Your career is at a turning point, and it might help cement a new opportunity.

But go to the party afterwards. :-)

It's an elopement, and there is a reception later in the US.

tough call. Though IIRC the friends are eloping, and will forgive your absence. No clue about your career.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
