Doxory?

kevinr has decided My sister's going off to college this fall, and won't be needing her car at home any more (my old car, a '91 Ford Escort hatchback that still runs pretty well). My parents want to trade it in to partly cover a new car for themselves.

Asked 2 years ago

Try to persuade my parents to sell it back to me, drive it out to Boston (1000+ miles), and use it there eg. if I get a job I can't bike to. Deal with registration, the high cost of gas, the annoyance of parking, etc., but don't have to shell out big bucks for a newer car either.

My choice: Let it go. Despite the sentimental attachment, it's not worth the cost or the hassle.

Keeping a car in Boston can be a pain, especially since you (a) are going to be a student next fall and (b) may not have a job you need to drive to. I would let your parents keep it on the condition that they help you out a little if you need to get a used car for driving to a job in Boston. Having a car as an undergrad is sucktastic, especially if you can't convince MIT to give you parking...

Wait until you need a car to get one. Why keep it if you're not going to need it?

Can you afford/do you want a car at school? Will you want a car after you graduate?

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
