You're never going to /use/ it, so it doesn't matter.

If you're using DVDs for archiving, having them RO is probably wise so you don't intentionally or mistakenly overwrite them.

I got one for free, it's kinda neat (it's random access!) but i can't imagine ever buying a(nother) disc, they're kinda expensive
