...but not any of its sequels.
..but none of the sequels. It's not an awesome book, but it's not bad, and useful for the cultural references.
No more than two or three books though
but only the first book
Yes. The sequels are probably not worth reading, unless you're a completist.
Not that I've read it either.
but only the first book.
but none of the sequels.
But none of the sequels
The first book's worth it, but I hear the series has diminishing returns.
i don't see why not.
(but stop after the second book)
A good way to read Dune is to pick a random page, read it, and repeat until you think you've got the general gist. This works because (1) the information in the book is not presented in any relationship to the order that you need it in order to understand what's going on, so a randomized algorithm is no worse than sequential scan, and may avoid some pathological cases, and (2) psychologically, you won't expect the thing to make any sense initially, and thus you won't become demoralized. But yeah. Great book, for very specialized values of great. Also cultural context.
