I have decided for neither. I will wait until OpenMoko v2 comes out. Afterall, the "free" clause is bound to make it "smarter"...

I suspect that you'll actually be able to get more done on a Windows Mobile device than an iPhone -- there are probably going to be more useful third party apps.
Let other people break in the iPhone first.

Eww, Windows. But at least check it out before deciding "no" on the Qtek.
anything but windows mobile
All options suck. I'm hoping this one will suck \epsilon less.

Nokia E-Series
I'd wait a few months. There are a lot of new phones that are appearing on the market within the next few months that are comparable or better than the iPhone.
I'd wait about 2 months after the iPhone is out. There's a lot of potential for rockage or suckage, and time will tell.
how "smart" does it need to be? The openmoko-based FIC1973 should be shipping sooner than the iPhone...
wait for the greenphone or another linux phone. hackability++
Treo 700P. Avoid the Windows Mobile ugliness, perfectly capable as a smart phone, and a Palm Pilot to boot. Sprint offers a cheap unlimited data plan as well (dunno about other providers), and with a data plan and third party software, the phone can act as a cellular modem.
Get a blackberry.
Windows FTL, And the iPhone looks like all flash, not substance. Go with something else.
