Your hair is dark enough such that the fade won't be too bad (and yes, the Garment District carries Special Effects). Do it!

Mine has never faded to blue/brown - perhaps we should compare notes. Dyeing does take a while, though. I recommend (if time is an issue) dyeing at night and sleeping in it and then washing out the next morning. That way you lose the dead-time of sitting with dye in. Also try studying or working on a laptop while your hair is being dyed if you can find someone else to dye it.
