aletta: Applied to a wealth management firm and then ended up interviewing me for two jobs. Not sure which one I prefer. The FP position would be more breadth, the IA, more depth.

I'm guessing (randomly) that the FP position involves more leadership and interaction with clients, so I'd take that one, on the theory that it better develops the skills necessary for general career advancement, even if I thought that, with my present background, the IA position would be better at using the specialized skills I currently possess.

Take the position that makes more money in the long run (3-5 years). Early in life, take the risks, then save along the way.

Will you have an opportunity to change? Does either require working with customers more, and how do you feel about that?

Are you sure about what you want to do in the future? If you're not fairly sure I'd go for the FP position - broader experience can be carried over more easily to other things. On the other hand, if you're fairly sure I'd go with the IA; depth will get you farther in your chosen field.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
