Take a look at Other World Computing ( http://macsales.com/ ) first too. They have some nice slightly-higher-capacity batteries for prices comparable to OEMs.
It's nice to have a fresh battery, but you have to only use it occasionally.
especially if you travel
but only if you use it alot

Mine lasts four hours; if I'm on a plane longer than that, I sleep and charge it at a connecting airport.
LiIon batteries start degrading from manufacture date. Unless you intend to use them simultaneously for super-long uptimes, you're just wasting money.
If by going bad, you mean, is losing charge ridiculuously quickly, replace your current battery. There's no need to buy a new one, though.
It's really only worth it if you've got an external charger, I think.
Unless you take your laptop on long plane flights, getting two new batteries seems like a bad deal moneywise.
I picked up a spare battery with my first laptop many years ago. I hardly ever used it.
Not unless you spend a lot of time on long plane flights. Just replace your only battery when it gets old.

depends on your use model. They're expensive enough I wouldn't keep one around as just a spare
Totally depends how much you value your time and if you will actually carry the battery. As for your current battery, first see if the battery firmware update they just released fixes the problem.
