Machines that do multiple things tend to do none of them well.
Better to buy two things that are specialized in what they can do rather than one thing that probably wouldn't do either as well.
Have the cell phone manufacturers finally managed to get around the money-grubbing "we want money for you to get your pictures off your phone" of the carriers? If not, I wouldn't even consider a "convergence device."
The camera in a smart phone is going to be vastly inferior to almost every digital camera out there. The same is true of the MP3 capability of the smart phone compared to a dedicated MP3 player.

If you actually want to take pictures, you want a camera, not a smartphone. "Cameras have lenses" - it's not the megapixels, it's the glass...
phones are bad cameras and mediocre media players.
