calmingpie: because i play with all of jesse's new gadgets :P and i could use some input ... situation : after much legwork, I started my new job last week, but just got an email regarding an interview at another company ...

Asked 2 years ago

stick with the new job which is relatively low paying and currently tedious, but has the potential to be quite interesting and multi faceted ? (oh and so far i don't like any of my co-worker

Company names don't really do much on your resume if you can't back it up talking about solid work experience in the interview.

I'm not sure the super-resume-enhancing company would combat the "I spent a week at this job before jumping to a new one" if I were interviewing you. Particularly if there were family fallout for leaving the 1st job, and the new one would be much less pay. I'd probably go to the interview, just to see if that's really what's going on, but less money and family fallout aren't good reasons to switch jobs, IMO. *hugs*

It isn't good for one's career to quit right after being hired, generally.

You may as well interview, to see what it's like, but stick with the current job for a while

I don't like any of your co-workers either but that cute, blond in Accounting wants to go out with me again and I think I will let her take me to dinner.

do my best at the interview for the 'other job' which i didn't really apply for and don't think i have the qualifications for - but is with a *really* *really* well known, super resume enhancing company. the position here would be less onerous than the one i currently have but may be even lower in pay.

If you've just started than your departure probably won't hurt too much. And interviewing is supposed to generally be good...
kyrandil
the "lower pay but better for resume" is strange unless this is a volunteer organization, though.
lakmiseiru
It's not like interviewing at the other job will hurt you as long as your current company doesn't find out...

Why can't you go for the new interview, do your best, and see what they can offer you? Tell them frankly this is exploratory to see if you're a good fit. you've just started the first job and you're reluctant to job hop unnecessarily. in the meantime, continue to do your job well at the first co. When you have the second co's job offer in hand (or if it's akan datang), you can assess your options. Even telling first co. frankly that you have a new offer and seeing what they can offer you (eg. more concrete plans to upgrade the quality of your work) is a possibility. Grr I don't like this trichotomy - but you're forcing me into a box in order to post this comment. So for your sake.. *click*.

already having a job, you're in a good position to negotiate for at lest as much money.
djdrue
go to the interview.. and negotiate a salary worthwhile. if they don't bite, you are no worse off.
ksil83
why not give it a fair shot? maybe you'll get the same pay and be loads happier

keep looking for jobs that both have more interesting work and compensate you better.

Quit your job and move to Quebec. You need to be with other insane <strike>canadians</strike> people.

If you make a stupid choice because a website tells you to, it's your own damn fault.
